Question 1

Problem we came across, and how we over came it.

Problem we came across, and how we overcame it.

My film was originally about a group of friends that some how get locked in the school. Unfortunately we ran out of time and it was impossible to get all of the people needed to shoot the scenes. We had no other choice but to thing of a new storyline. I had permission to film late as my family took into consideration that we had to do filming and left the premises while we where filming our project.

The new storyline is about a man that sees someone with a valuable item and his aim is to obtain it. In the opening he breaks into his house to steal the item that is worth a lot of money. He the person’s daily routine and knew that he would not be home as he has work. As the man (Jerome) is searching the person’s room he hears a sound. The owner of the house (Fred) comes back home from work early. Jerome runs into Fred’s bedroom wardrobe to hide. This is a POV shot making the viewer feel involved and will definitely grab them and keep them watching.

My film is about a group of friends that some how are locked in the school. To let time go by they decide to play a game of hide and seek. One of The main characters Jase is the one to count and look for his friends that are hiding. As he looks for his friends he finds them one by one dead. There’s a twist. Every body that he finds has a note placed on it. Because there are seven people to be found the first dead body he finds has the number 7 on the note and the second body he finds has the number 6. This is assumed to be a count down of the friends that have been killed. But there is another twist. At the ending of the film, the truth is uncovered; the killer was Jase. Jase has an illness that makes him forget thinks that he has done. Every time he fond one of his friends he would kill them and leave a note on them; after he does this he snaps out of it and sees the dead body lying there not know that it was him that had done it. Every time he finds a body he looks for someone else with the intention of telling them, but instead he kills them. In my opening scene the viewer will only see the second dead body with the note on it, this will make them know that the numbers must mean something and will automatically make them want to see the rest of the film.

My opening sequence will start with a group of friends socializing after school. Jase realizes that it was getting late so they decide to leave and go home. As they arrive to the door Jerome fails to open it as they have been locked in. The camera would zoom in on his face showing al of the details so it is clear that he is surprised and worried.

There will be many close ups and POV shots use in the sequence as this adds thrill and will make the viewer feel more involved. Many different story lines were thought of, but the final story line was decided upon as others were un-realistic or in some sense of the word unachievable. So we decided to continue with the theme of someone seeking and others hiding within the school. Our research (questionnaire) gave us information on what things our peers and people our age would like. So I continued to use the school theme.

I have chosen my film location to be in a school. This is because it goes perfectly with my storyline as they are locked in a school. This is good because people of the age of 15-23 can relate to it and people over 18 will be able to follow and still get grabbed by the tension that is created by the film. I believe that my opening scene matches the conventions of a thriller, as it is suspenseful, gripping and does not show a lot of the film but still gets you thinking and makes you want to carry on watching.
